    Laminate Flooring Installation

At Cover-Ups Flooring, we provide expert installation services for laminate flooring. Laminate is a cost effective alternative to hardwood and ceramic flooring. This type of flooring is easy to install, and is resistant to stains, scratches, and dents.

Good quality laminate flooring has the potential to last up to 25 years before it needs replacement, if installed in the proper location. Due to the durable nature of laminate flooring, it is the perfect flooring solution for high traffic and activity areas like family rooms, hallways, and basements.

Although there are top-of-the-line products that will perform in kitchens, laminate does not like standing water. For this reason, we do not recommend installing laminates in kitchens, bathrooms, powder rooms, and laundry rooms.

    How Laminate Flooring is Made

Laminate flooring is made up of four layers of materials:

    • Backing Layer — The bottom material that provides strength and stability to the laminate flooring board.
    • Core Layer — The central layer of the laminate flooring board is the structural element supporting the weight and stress of foot traffic. Made with high-density fibreboard (HDF), but sometimes made from particle board or medium-density fibreboard (MDF).
    • Decorative Layer — This layer is made from a photo rendering of the design, which is created to mimic the surface of a natural material.
    • Wear Layer — A resin-based coating designed to resist abrasion and typically made of several coats of melamine or aluminum oxide, which protects the floor from stains, fading, and wear.

Sheets of laminate flooring are made by fusing these four layers together at over 600 pounds of pressure per inch and at temperatures around 400 degrees Fahrenheit. In the direct-pressure laminate process, the decorative covering layer and stabilizing layer are pressed onto the core layer.

    Laminate Flooring Maintenance

When caring for your laminate floors, you should sweep or vacuum regularly using the wand attachment, then follow with recommended floor care products. Immediately wipe wet areas from spills, foreign substances, or wet feet, using a cloth or sponge.

It is recommended that you wash your laminate flooring from time to time. When you do, make sure you allow time for the floor to dry after washing. Do not use soap-based detergents as these may leave a dull film on your laminate floor. Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or scouring powder, which can scratch your floor. Do not wax or polish your floor.

Laminate flooring must be replaced when worn or severely damaged. If you think your laminate flooring may need to be replaced, please contact our team for a consultation.
